IMD has forecast heavy to moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the coming days. A Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan Region from December 8.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to moderate rainfall in parts of southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, over the coming days. In its latest weather bulletin issued on Saturday, IMD said that a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of northwest India from December 8.
Meanwhile, the night temperature across Kashmir improved last night, even as the weather stations in the valley continued to experience sub-zero nights. Srinagar city recorded minus 2 degrees Celsius — up from the previous night’s low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal
Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during 10th-13th, with very heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu on 12th December.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam
Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on 11th & 12th December.
Kerala & Mahe
Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Kerala & Mahe during 11th-13th December.
Western Disturbance Expected to Affect Northwest India
A fresh Western Disturbance is observed as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level running roughly along Long 68°E to the north of Lat. 28°N. It is very likely to cause light/moderate rainfall/snowfall over the Western Himalayan Region from December 8-11, 2024, and light isolated rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on December 8 and 9.
Dense Fog and Cold Wave Alerts
Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during late night/early morning hours in isolated pockets of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura till December 9, in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Jharkhand from December 8-10, in Uttar Pradesh from December 9-12, in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till December 10, and in Himachal Pradesh from December 10-12.
Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of North Rajasthan from December 9-13.
Weather Forecast For December 7–10
On December 7, IMD predicts a mainly clear sky with a gentle northwest breeze blowing at speeds under 8 kmph until evening. As night falls, winds will decrease and shift to the southeast. Smog and mist may roll in during the evening and night.
On December 8, IMD forecasts a partly cloudy sky with a possibility of very light rain or drizzle. Morning winds will be light and variable, picking up to 16 kmph in the afternoon. Shallow fog is likely, with a low chance of moderate fog. Mist will return in the evening and night.
On December 9, IMD predicts another mainly clear day, with southeast winds blowing at speeds under 8 kmph. Smog and moderate fog may develop in the morning, while smog and shallow fog will return in the evening and night.
On December 10, IMD forecasts a mainly clear sky, with light and variable winds in the morning. Northwest winds will pick up during the afternoon, decreasing again by evening. Smog and shallow fog are likely to return in the evening and night.
