Citing Shiv Sena sources, ANI reported that Eknath Shinde will take oath as Deputy CM along with Ajit Pawar. However, further confirmation is awaited.

The Mahayuti alliance is all set to return to power in Maharashtra. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his gratitude to the voters for a decisive victory. “This is a landslide victory. Our schemes turned common man into superman. People rejected politics of hate,” said Shinde while thanking a diverse group of voters, ranging from farmers to senior citizens.

Maharashtra BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said the Mahayuti partners will meet Governor C P Radhakrishnan at 3.30 pm on Wednesday to stake a claim to form a government in the state.

Mungantiwar was speaking to mediapersons ahead of the BJP's crucial legislature party meeting scheduled at the Vidhan Bhavan here on Wednesday to elect its leader, who is expected to be sworn in as the chief minister on Thursday.

Former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is being seen as the frontrunner for the top post in the new Mahayuti government."After the meeting at the Vidhan Bhavan, all Mahayuti leaders will head to the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor C P Radhakrishnan. The leaders will submit their claim to form government in Maharashtra," Mungantiwar told a regional news channel.

Talking to reporters at the Vidhan Bhavan, BJP MLA Ram Kadam said, "You will hear a good news soon. The BJP legislature party leader will be someone the entire state wishes to see as the chief minister."

The Mahayuti comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar's NCP, won 230 of the 288 seats in the assembly in the November 20 state polls.

After the legislature meeting, all Mahayuti leaders will head to the Raj Bhavan to formally submit their claim to form the new state government in Maharashtra.

Suspense has grappled the nation since the election results on November 23. In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance saw a landslide victory, with BJP securing the maximum number of votes.

As per reports, Devendra Fadnavis, the incumbent deputy CM is likely to be named as the next chief minister of Maharashtra with Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde as the next deputy minister. Confirmation is awaited.

As per the latest update, Devendra Fadnavis' name as the CM pick has been cleared. Citing sources, news agency PTI has stated the the BJP leader will be sworn in as Maharashtra CM on December 5.

Devendra Fadnavis was unanimously elected as the Maharashtra BJP legislature party leader at its meeting here on Wednesday, paving the way for his appointment as the chief minister.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held in Mumbai on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Fadnavis' name was finalised for the top post at the BJP's core committee meet held here ahead of the legislature party meeting, sources said.

The BJP achieved remarkable success in the November 20 Maharashtra elections, securing 132 out of the 288 assembly seats in the state, marking its best performance in the state so far.

People were seen celebrating the election of Devendra Fadnavis as the new chief minister of Maharashtra by bursting crackers outside his residence in Nagpur.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, all set to become Maharashtra Chief Minister for the third time, on Wednesday underlined the challenges before the new government and said the real struggle lies in fulfilling the people's expectations.

Speaking after being elected as leader of the state BJP legislature party ahead of Thursday's swearing-in ceremony, he also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for placing faith in him.

"Our responsibility has increased. We need to work harder. The struggle ahead is about meeting the expectations people have from us. We must work in tandem with our allies to achieve this," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had the people's mandate in 2019 but "it was taken away", he said, apparently referring to the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray severing its ties with the BJP over the chief minister's post and forming government in alliance with the Congress and undivided NCP.

"For the first two and a half years, we faced targeted opposition, but not a single MLA left us. We came to power in 2022, and now, we have achieved a thumping majority in this election," said the 54-year-old politician from Nagpur.

"The information I have now is that the CM and two deputy CMs will take oath. The next decision (of cabinet formation and portfolio allocation) will be taken by the three leaders (Fadnavis, Shinde and NCP chief Ajit Pawar)," Samant told reporters.

"The three leaders will meet before going to the governor (to stake claim for forming the government in the state). They will talk to (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah and then take a decision," he said.

"More than Eknath Shinde's wish, we - around 60-61 MLAs - want him (Shinde) to lead us in the government. This is our firm stand. There are no ifs and buts on this. Shinde should become deputy CM and this is the desire of Shiv Sainiks, MLAs and MPs," he added.

His remarks give an indication that Shinde may not be eager to join the government.

"It has been decided that there will be two deputy CMs. We have the right to put forth our point before our leader. Our insistence is for the betterment of Maharashtra," Samant said.

According to him, Shinde said he will tour the state as the Shiv Sena chief.

But the party wants him (Shinde) to be the deputy CM and part of the administration, the former minister added.

Preparations for the grand event at Mumbai's Azad Maidan are in the final phase. Invitation cards have been printed and sent to the who's who in the politically-significant state. There is, however, an interesting detail. The invite, issued by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, names the Chief Minister pick as "Devendra Sarita Gangadharrao Fadnavis". While Sarita is his mother's name, Gangadhar is his father's. While it is customary for Maharashtra residents to use their father's name as their middle name, this is arguably the first time Fadnavis has used his mother's name for an official purpose.

At a press conference addressed by the Mahayuti leaders in Mumbai, commenting on whether he will take oath as Deputy CM on December 5, Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde said, "Wait till the evening."

Pawar immediately interjected saying "He will decide by evening but I am taking oath tomorrow for sure. I am not going to wait."

Shinde not to be outdone said "Ajit has experience. He can take oath in the morning as well as in the evening." This was in reference to Pawar after defecting from the NCP in 2019 took oath as Dy CM in the very early hours.

Citing Sena Sources, news agency ANI said, Eknath Shinde will take oath tomorrow as Maharashtra's Deputy CM along with Ajit Pawar.
