Neeraj Chopra qualified with a top-place finish with a throw of 86.65m. Just like in Paris, he just threw one and took the top spot in the qualifier.

In the final, Neeraj started with 87.03m to take the lead. That would have been enough for him to get the gold but then he bettered it in the second attempt with 87.54, the number that has been etched in Indian sporting history.
