An Indian Army jawan who is posted in Kashmir currently posted an emotional video where he spoke about his wife being attacked by men and beaten up. He requests the Tamil Nadu police to look into the matter.

Reportedly so far one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Identifying himself as Havildar Prabakaran, the army jawan had released the video urging the Tamil Nadu police chief to action against the persons who attacked his wife. He also accused them of stripping her "half-naked" and assaulting her in what is a fallout of a local dispute.

"An Indian Army soldier in uniform gave a statement fearing for the safety of his family. Army has already contacted the #Police authorities who have assured all help post investigation," the Indian Army's Northern Command said on its official Twitter handle.

"One of the accused has already been arrested. Action is at hand to arrest others. The #IndianArmy accords high priority to well being of families who stay away from the soldiers deployed in field areas. In the instant case, local military authorities have reached out to the families and are also in constant touch with the civil #administration including civil police to ensure safety of the soldier's family. Police have assured safety of the family," it said.

Police, citing the initial investigation, denied the woman was attacked. She has since been hospitalised.

TN Bharatiya Janata Party president Annamalai said he has spoken to Prabakaran.

"Had a telephonic conversation with the Havildar, who is bravely serving our country in Kashmir and his wife, based out of Tiruvannamalai. Truly gutted to hear her story & I felt ashamed that this had happened to her on our Tamil soil! Our party people are rushing to attend to her now, who is admitted in a hospital in Vellore. TN BJP will stand with her & our Havildar’s family in getting justice for her," he added.

What did the police say?

The Tamil Nadu Police identified Jawan's wife as Keerti who has land dispute issues with some men reportedly. The police statement from the Kandavasal village of Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu informed that in reality, Keerti has a shop which is in the said disputed land and even though Keerti and her mother had signed an agreement in February for returning the land for money, they did not vacate the place within the given date. So consequently the accused men came to her shop and took some goods from there and threw it away, reportedly.

But in a petition submitted by Prabhakaran to the superintendent of police (SP), Thiruvannamalai district, K Karthikeyan, said, "My wife has a shop. More than 120 people have beat her up. She is bleeding from her ears and nose."

Karthikeyan told the media, “With regards to the video made by Indian army soldier Mr. Prabakar on social media, preliminary investigation reveals that his family has a civil dispute with one Ramu’s family over a leased shop.” He added,?”There was a scuffle between both sides yesterday (on Saturday). FIR has been registered based on the complaint and the case is under investigation. Appropriate legal action will be taken. The soldier’s family has been given police protection.
