Supriya Sule, the daughter of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, has moved out of the heavy shadow of her father and is today an independent leader who is the working president of the NCP. As a member of the Lok Sabha, Sule has been raising various issues pertaining to women. In 2011, she launched a state-wide campaign against female foeticide. As a Parliamentarian, she has been awarded as one of the best performers in the Lok Sabha on multiple occasions.

Despite her well-known and well-connected father, Sule is a grassroots worker of the NCP. Like her father and cousin Ajit Pawar—who is the incumbent deputy chief minister of Maharashtra—Sule has nurtured her constituency, Baramati, after her father quit electoral politics of the Lok Sabha, and is a sitting member of the Rajya Sabha.

She has been immersed in politics since an early age as conversations in their house centred around politics. This 54-year-old leader has often confessed that her political insight has been shaped by listening to the stalwarts who have visited their home during her growing years. A powerful orator, she has been impactful in delivering the work of the NCP to the people at the grassroots. Though a leader with a modern outlook, she combines it with the traditional to connect with the electorate, particularly women.
