Watch: SpiceJet Aircraft Catches Fire At Delhi Airport During Maintenance Works

The aircraft and maintenance personnel are safe and the fire has been doused.

A SpiceJet aircraft caught fire at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport during maintenance works on Tuesday. The fire erupted from an engine of the grounded SpiceJet Q400 while maintenance personnel were carrying out engine ground run, the airline informed, adding that the aircraft and maintenance personnel are safe.

An official at the airport told PTI that the fire was reported around 8 pm in one of the engines of the grounded aircraft, and later the fire was extinguished.

Visuals of the incident were shared online by journalists and other people at the location.

A SpiceJet spokesperson said that a fire warning was observed in an engine of the Q400 aircraft that was under maintenance, and the fire extinguisher was discharged. As a precaution, the fire brigade was called in, he added.?

"On July 25, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft under maintenance, while carrying out engine ground run at idle power at bay, the AME observed fire warning on #1 engine," the airline spokesperson said in a statement.

Q400 is a turboprop aircraft. According to the airline's website, it has Q400s that can accommodate 78 passengers and 90 passengers.

The news comes hours after aviation regulator DGCA said it has taken off SpiceJet from its enhanced surveillance regime.
