Oppenheimer Sex Scene Sparks Controversy: 'Scathing Attack On Hinudism', Says Govt Official

Intimate scenes in 'Oppenheimer' starring Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh created a controversy as it showed Bhagavad Gita being read by Murphy in it. Uday Mahurkar, the founder of Save Culture Save India has asked Union Minister Anurag Thakur to look into it.

'Oppenheimer' was released in India on July 21 and soon attracted criticism for its intimate scenes that showed actor Cillian Murphy reading Bhagavad?Gita. Audiences started putting up scenes from the film on Twitter and expressing their opinion on it. Meanwhile, on Sunday Information Commissioner of the Government of India and founder of Save Culture Save India, Uday Mahurkar took to Twitter to share a press release where he claimed that the scenes made a scathing attack on Hinduism'.

Mahurkar further said, "A divine gift to human civilisation by Bhagwan Sri Krishna, the Bhagwad Geeta, is one of the most revered scriptures of Hinduism. Geeta has been the inspiration for countless sanyasis, brahmcharis and legends who live a life of self-control and perform selfless noble deeds. "

He expressed shock that the?Central Board of Film Certification approved this scene in the movie before it was rolled out for the public.

What was the controversial scene?

According to Uday Mahurkar the scene that has been drawing the attention of people is, "A scene in the movie shows a woman makes a man read Bhagwad Geeta aloud while getting over him and doing sexual intercourse."

What does he want?

Mahurkar said that he wants this to be investigated by higher officials like Union Information and Broadcast Minister Anurag Thakur. He wrote, "So this should be investigated by I & B Ministry on an urgent basis and those involved should be severely punished. As observed by Union I & B Minister Anurag Thakur ji recently and even courts in last couple of years, the entertainment we get is insensitive to the cultural and moral sentiments of masses."

He further claimed that the population is helpless and forced to watch "morally inappropriate, even disgusting stuff , in name of creativity".

Mahurkar concluded saying, "The Foundation urges, on behalf of the public of this nation and timeless tradition of lives being transformed by revered Geeta, the I & B Ministry to do all that is needed to uphold dignity of the revered holy book of the Hindus, punish those involved and setting processes in place that such things do not happen in future."

The film revolves around the life of Robert Oppenheimer who was the mastermind behind the first atomic bomb in the world. 'Oppenheimer' was released alongside 'Barbie' both of which created a phenomenon on social media with their marketing. According to the reports, 'Oppenheimer' has toppled 'Barbie' at the box office in India over the last two days.?
