IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Mumbai, Predicts Monsoon Arrival In Several States

Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai today with a prediction of heavy rainfall in the upcoming days. India Meteorological Department has issues a yellow alert for Mumbai and spoke about advancement of Southwest monsoon in several states on India.

Mumbai received rain on Saturday morning as the India Meteorological Department expects the southwest monsoon to have?reached the city. The rainfall has reportedly caused waterlogging in several areas around the city.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) tweeted, “Generally cloudy sky with possibility of light to moderate rain in Mumbai city & suburbs."

According to the IMD regional daily weather report, the arrival of monsoon has been confirmed, they said, "Conditions are also becoming favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka & Telangana during next 3-4 days." It also predicted that on Saturday, "Light to moderate rain/thundershowers very likely to occur at isolated places in districts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada."

According to the reports, the Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai has predicted an increase in rainfall intensity over the next five days.

The weather forecasting agency earlier said the monsoon was likely to reach Mumbai by June 24, but a formal official is yet to be made.

IMD Mumbai said, "Conditions are favourable for the monsoon to move further towards Raigad, Thane, Mumbai and Palghar. Monsoon is likely to reach Mumbai by June 24."

The IMD also informed about the monsoon arrival in other states of the country, it said, "The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Karnataka, Telangana, remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, remaining parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Odisha & Gangetic West Bengal, some more parts of Jharkhand & Bihar and some parts of East Uttar Pradesh today, the 23rd June."
