A Delhi Police constable died on Sunday, four days after he was stabbed twelve times by a man he had nabbed for stealing phones. The incident happened near west Delhi's Mayapuri slums.?

CCTV footage of the incident from January 4 shows the accused, identified as Anish Raj, stabbing the 57-year-old police, Shambhu Dayal, while people stand and watch.?

According to a report by NDTV, Dayal had nabbed Raj from the slums of Mayapuri following a complaint by a woman who said that the accused had stolen his husband's phone. And he was later caught by Dayal.

The purported video shows Dayal walking with the alleged thief, when Raj took out a knife hidden under his shirt and starts stabbing the constable on his stomach, neck, and chest over and over again while people watch the crime from a safe distance.?

However, once he tried?to flee, the locals started to chase him and he was overpowered by a fellow constable and taken to the police station.?

Daya, who was later taken to a hospital, succumbed to his injuries. He belonged from Rajasthan and had three children.?
