DEA Pick Chad Chronister Withdraws
Three days after Trump announced Chronister as his pick to run the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Florida Sheriff announced he will be withdrawing his name.
Chronister's decision comes amid backlash for the Hillsborough County sheriff's decision for lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taking to X, the sheriff said - "To have been nominated by President-Elect Donald Trump to serve as Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration is the honor of a lifetime. Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration."
Chronister had received backlash from conservatives for his lockdown rules and regulations in the southern state. At one point, the Chronister arrested a pastor for defying lockdown orders and held a service.
Ahead of Chronister, Matt Gaetz, Trump's pick for Attorney-General also withdrew his nomination.
"There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1,” Gaetz wrote on social media.
However, Gaetz decision came amid pressure from Democrats to release the House of Ethics committee report into the congressman who has been accused of sexual misconduct.
Trump's Cabinet Picks Receive Backlash
Trump has made several controversial picks and has received backlash for some names, especially those who have been accused of sexual misconduct, just like the President-elect.
Gaetz, was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for sexual misconduct and obstruction.
Pete Hegseth (Secretary of Defence), Elon Musk (Department of Government Efficiency), RFK Jr (Health and Human Services) and Linda McMahon (Secretary of Education) have cased of sexual misconduct and allegations against them.
Additionally Trumps pick for National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard is also being criticised as she has no background in intelligence and is considered close to Russia.
