6.2-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Nepal, Injuries And Damage To Buildings And Highway Reported

The tremors of the Nepal earthquake were also felt across cities in North India, including Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR).

An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck Nepal on Tuesday. The preliminary reports say two people have suffered injuries and some buildings have suffered damages.?

There have also been reports of landslides damaging the highway connecting the Western Nepal with the capital Kathmandu in the central region of the country.?

The earthquake has its epicentre in Western Nepal's Bajhang district, according to Nepal's National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre. It occurred at 3:06 pm local time (2:51 pm India time).?

This was the second earthquake to strike the Nepal's western region within an hour. Earlier on 2:25 pm India time, an earthquake of 4.6-magntitude was reported with its epicentre in the same Western Nepal region.?

Visuals of damage from the earthquake have surfaced in Nepali-language media reports.

Visuals in Nepali media have surfaced that show collapsed and damaged houses from the earthquake. There have not been any reports of a death so far.

Nepali portal Online Khabar cited sources as saying that several houses in the Bajhang district have been destroyed.?

Bajhang police chief Bharat Bahadur Shah was quoted as saying by Nepali-language portal Online Khabar that two people are confirmed to have been injured. The police also said that the Jai Prithvi Highway connecting the popular tourist destination of Pokhara in Western Nepal with the capital Kathmandu has also been blocked because of landslides triggered by the earthquake.?

"According to the police, the highway was blocked at Kachari Khola in Jayaprithvi Municipality-7 after a landslide from above the road. Chief District Officer of Bajhang Narayan Pandey said that the road could not be opened due to the continuing aftershocks," reported Online Khabar in Nepali, according to a translation.?

The tremors of the earthquake that struck Western Nepal were also felt in several parts of North India, including in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR). There have been no immediate reports of damage to property or loss of life in India so far.
