Way back when in 2009, ‘Avatar’ first made it to Indian Cinema Houses, we, as viewers were in absolute awe of the magic that was VFX, today in just over a decade, India has become the hub of all things VFX and we couldn't be prouder. Only this year, India saw mega huge hits that utilised such intense and nuanced visual effects that it is virtually impossible to distinguish them from reality.

As we bring a close to this year, here are a few such movies that had superb VFX and need to be specially mentioned here:

‘Brahmastra’

In the first instalment of a trilogy, the movie used VFX to enhance the viewer's experience. The first of its kind superhero movie that could easily compete with Hollywood in terms of animation and nuanced worldbuilding. It really set the tone for India’s potential to excel at VFX. The film starred Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles.

‘Bhediya’

This movie stands as proof that India has reached such an advanced level of movie-making. Another brilliant VFX-forward movie that focuses on subtly blurring the lines between reality and visual effects. The film starred Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee and Deepak Dobriyal in lead roles.

‘Ram Setu’

This movie had a brilliant world creation and distinct VFX. Even though the movie was bashed for its storytelling, one thing that everyone praised was its visual effects. The movie didn’t do well at the box-office, but there is a great buzz about the same as it releases on OTT soon. The film starred Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead roles.
