Why Hasn’t Nushrratt Bharuccha Got Her Due Yet?

Nushrratt Bharuccha has been in the film industry for almost 15 years now, yet, she is still undermined. However, she is a massively talented actor.

Nushrratt Bharuccha is someone who has long intrigued and wowed us but somewhere along the way hasn’t been given the due she deserves. There is no questioning that this lady knows how to act, to add to it she is a stunner fashion-wise and someone who has managed to ace just about every role thrown at her. Then why isn’t she still in the A-list of actresses?

The honest fact is that Nushrratt Bharuccha, even though her first few initial films were not that big a success, she has never had bad performances. Also, she can be credited for having broken the mould when she was almost stereotyped in it. Since then, she has taken on versatile roles in different genres and emerged with flying colours.

With films like ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ 1 & 2 and ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, Nushrratt Bharuccha became a household name as a result of some of these films attaining cult status among the youth. And just when you thought romantic comedies were her jam, she positively surprised all with a film in the horror genre – ‘Chhorii’. The sequel is also set to come out soon. Also, she took on a strong social subject with a film like ‘Janhit Mein Jaari’ and shed the glam and got under the surface of emotions with a film like ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’. If there was any question if Nushrratt Bharuccha was just a pretty face, she put those all to rest.

This leaves me asking why a talent like hers hasn’t been celebrated or received her due. Perhaps, it stems from the long-discussed debate on industry insiders versus outsiders. How outsiders who work on their own merit don’t get the hype or stardom that is almost always attached to star kids or people with film connections? Why those who belong to starry-families are glorified for a single decent performance, while performers like Bharuccha need a string of great performances to get halfway there? Well, that’s the sad reality of today’s time.

Let’s wait and watch how long it takes for her hard work and talent to be acknowledged, and mind you she definitely has what it takes to strongly represent cinema for the country. With her upcoming slate of films will she consolidate her position as a talent to reckon with? Only time will tell.
