Popular actor Arun Govil has played multiple roles throughout his career. But if there is one role that is etched in the public conscience even after so many years is his depiction of Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s hit television series, ‘Ramayan.’ The actor revealed that while he is grateful for the success he received with the role, it also put a brake on his career in mainstream cinema.

Before Arun Govil made a mark as Lord Ram in ‘Ramayan’, his career was growing at a glacial pace. However, with the success of the show, his popularity grew immensely. The actor was casually referred to as ‘Bhagwan’ by his fans. He revealed that people would come up to touch his feet and get his blessings. He appeared in several mythological roles after ‘Ramayan.’ But he was unable to take up varied roles.

In an interview, Arun Govil revealed that it was hard for him to get other roles as the audience saw him as Lord Ram. Speaking to Rajshri Unplugged, the actor said, “I got a lot of respect and honour but I was completely distanced from commercial films. All the producers and directors would tell me that my image of Lord Ram had become so strong that they would wonder what role to cast me in for. ‘People see only Lord Ram in you, they don’t see any other character’ is what they said.”

Arun Govil shot to fame once again when Prabhas starrer ‘Adipurush’ was released in cinemas. Currently, the actor is in Ayodhya to witness the inauguration of the Ram Mandir.
