ED Attack In Bengal: Enforcement Directorate Director To Hold Meeting With Officials Today In Kolkata

Enforcement Directorate (ED) director, Rahul Navin, arrived in Kolkata on Monday night, days after his team was attacked during a raid in North 24 Parganas district. The probe agency's director, Rahul Navin, is scheduled to chair a confidential meeting with his officials at CGO complex in Kolkata today where he will be briefed about the attack on agency officials. Special directors and other top officials have been asked to attend the meeting.

Navin is also expected to meet the injured officials who were attacked during the raid.

About the mob attack on ED

The team of ED officials?was attacked in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali on January 5. The incident took place when the team had gone to raid Trinamool leader Shah Jahan Sheikh's residence in connection with the alleged scam. It has been reported that Sheikh was later arrested in the case.

According to the officials who were attacked by a mob of nearly a thousand people who marched at them, the attackers came "with an intention to cause death". ?In their official statement, the central probe agency said the mob marched towards its team and snatched mobile phones, laptops, and cash from the officials.

Three officials of the probe agency were injured, and their vehicles were attacked by a large group of supporters of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh.

The?TMC leader suspected in the alleged ration distribution case, Shahjahan Sheikh, has been on the run since the incident. ED has issued a lookout notice in a bid to apprehend him.??

When asked about his connection with the ration scam in the state, Sheikh maintained that he has?"never been associated with any crime".

In an audio clip released on Saturday, Shahjahan Sheikh addressed his supporters and said, "Death is inevitable, but I have never been associated with any crime. If anyone can prove that I have done anything wrong, I will kill myself and not show my face. I never support crime. I hope you don't lose faith in me."
