City Receives Scanty Rainfall

The overcast conditions brought down the maximum temperature of the city by two degrees at 33.8 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature by one degree to 25.7, the weather office said in a statement.

The city and its outskirts experienced scanty rainfall on Monday, ending the heatwave conditions.

The overcast conditions brought down the maximum temperature of the city by two degrees at 33.8 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature by one degree to 25.7, the weather office said in a statement.

Similar overcast conditions were witnessed in different parts of south Bengal as light rains helped in bringing down the mercury level by several notches, a met office spokesperson said.

The MeT forecast light to moderate rains in next 24 hours with the wind speed reaching 30-40 km per hour, particularly in coastal areas.

IMD East head Sanjib Bandyopadhyay told PTI "we had forecast that rains will happen from April 22 bringing down the temperature level and that has exactly happened. With conditions turned conducive for the formation of clouds which will increase moisture level in air and trigger rains, light showers will continue for next 24 hours at least."

To a question if it can be officially said the heatwave has ended across the state, he replied in the affirmative.

Most places in South Bengal recorded five to seven degrees lower temperatures than what it was a couple of days ago. During the heatwave conditions, places like Bankura, Purulia, Krishnanagar in Nadia district had recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius mark.
