5 Earthquakes Jolt Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh Within 24 Hours

Two mild back-to-back earthquakes hit the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir with an intensity of 4.4 magnitude within 15 minutes around 9:55 pm on Saturday. Another two earthquakes occurred this morning in Doda and were also mild.

Over the last 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir along with Ladakh have experienced five mild-intensity earthquakes. 4.5 magnitude has been the highest in the record so far.

According to the reports, no damage has been reported due to the earthquakes.

The first tremor on Saturday was felt after an earthquake of magnitude 3.0 hit Jammu and Kashmir at 2.03 pm. According to the reports, the epicentre for this earthquake was the hilly Ramban district which is along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

Two mild-intensity earthquakes shook the mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir early Sunday, reportedly. The Union Territory of Ladakh also recorded a mild tremor late Saturday around 9:44 pm in Leh which was 4.5 magnitude. Reports say that the two occurred within 15 mins around 9:55 pm and the intensity was 4.4.

Another earthquake hit Doda at 3:50 am which according to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS) was?a 4.1 magnitude earthquake having a depth of 11 km at a latitude of 32.96 degrees north and a longitude of 75.79 degrees east.

The fifth tremor at a depth of 10 km at a latitude of 33.01 degrees north and a longitude of 75.78 degrees east was felt at 5.22 am, the nodal government agency for monitoring of earthquake activity said.

Officials said the first earthquake woke people from their sleep and forced them to rush out of their homes.?

So far, 10 tremors with a varied intensity have jolted Doda in the past six days. ?? ?

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit the district on June 13, causing cracks in dozens of buildings, including houses.

The tremor was recorded 215 km north east of Leh at a depth of 10 km, it said.
